Sorry if this question has already been answered before but really need to know the answer to this. I have been told to do steam inhalation by my doctor but was not sure of the exact instructions she gave me for this.

Have any of you done this procedure before and what should I add to the water to relieve congestion? I intend to use a vegetable steamer for this purpose and then wash it afterwards.

you just need any bowl or jug, off-boiling kettle water and a towel over your head! plus a teaspoon of vick's melted in!

you just need to put boiling water from the kettle in a bowl and put a towel over your head and bend over the bowl. You could put eucalyptus oil in (olbas oil)

Do you mean for congestion? I add a few drops of olbas oil to very hot water in a bowl, put a towel over my head and the bowl and breathe in.

pour boiling water in a large bowl - add something like friars balsam/menthol/any decongestion - lean over bowl, place large towel over head and bowl and breathe in. Avoid submerging face in bowl or you'll be asking how to treat scalds!

A vegetable steamer will burn. Bowl of hot water, Vick or menthol crystal and a towel is all you need.

Or buy a steam inhalation cup from the chemist tomorrow, they are so much easier to use.
