I have an old cookery book but it does not have a year of publication anywhere in it nor does it have a publication number. Is there a way I can find out the year of publication?

Thanks.

Yes, it's ...

"Mrs Beeton's All About Cookery" published by Ward, Lock and Co Ltd

There have been many reissues but here is one to compare visually.
Sorry not to be able to directly answer your question.
The British Library Catalogue states that the first volume with that exact title was published in 1915.

However it had previously appeared as "All About Cookery. A collection of practical recipes" by Isabella Mary Beeton in 1871 (published by Ward, Lock & Tyler, London).

But nearly all of the recipes had already appeared in "Beeton’s Book of Household Management", which Mrs Beeton had self-published in 1859.

Given that Mrs Beeton is recognised as one of greatest plagiarists ever, most of the recipes will have been published by someone else well before then!

Ward, Lock and Co Ltd are still in existence maybe track them down and contact them.

thanks, your answers were really helpful.
Apparently a large number of recipes were submitted by readers of the magazine Mrs Beeton worked for. They were never tried out before they were published, and a lot of them just don't work.
