Great shame. He was a great player but lacked the managerial skills, I thought he should have had more backing from the management though.

Great players won't all evolve into great managers . Granted a rugby captain needs to show more leadership on the field than his soccer counterpart , but experience from the other code shows truly inspirational managers were mostly average players not neccessairally from the country the team was based in...

Scratch my earlier prediction, BBC Sport ticker says Mallet has ruled himself out.

Maybe the current turmoil at the RFU may disuade potential high calibre applicants.
