I am stumped by 30 across - "Mostly venturing to cross river in Packard?". I have ?A?R?N. Could the answer be Warren? There is a river Warren and the city of Warren on the river is where the Packard motor car originated, but if it is, where doers "venturing to cross" come in. There must be a more subtle answer that I am not seeing surely. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Many thanks Bibblebub, that's much better. Much obliged - I am obviously not well up on Packard history. I found the reference you gave most interesting.
