seizures in dogs
14 Answers
my 13 year old lasa apso had two seizures 4 weeks ago it was scary and upsetting he was foaming paddling and convulsing and urinated ,he has been to the vets and had blood test everything ok there ,its not his liver or heart the next step would be a mri referral which is a few hundred the vet seams to think that an mri scan is pointless as the cost is £2000 and if this shows up a brain tumor at his age he would not survive the op he had two seizures again 3 weeks later then a week later two last night ,i have been with him all day and he has had about 6 mini ones today with the last an hour ago
he is eating well and has a shiny nose he has been disorientated and whining his health has been brilliant all his life up until this year his sight and hearing have got poor i was lead to believe that lasas can live to 19 years!
i don't know what im going to do without him he is my pal and has been everywhere with me since i rescued him 12 years ago

I have been in your position more than once and will be again soon so I do know what you are experiencing and it's terrible. But you know you have to do the right thing for your dog and it is such a hard decision. He's obviously a much loved dog and I'm sure you have given him a lovely life. It is sad that the end looks to have come sooner than you expected and my heart goes out to you. Be brave. X
I'm sorry to hear about your dog and know have very, very sad it is when we have to make 'the decision' - because you love your dog I'm sure you know what you have to do - it's about him and making sure that his last hours are not spent in pain and confusion. It's the last decent thing an owner can do for a much loved pet xx
A Pet's Plea
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad- I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail, it's last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve that it should be you
Who has decided this thing to do
We've been so close, we two these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

So sorry to hear your news .... losing a pet is just so sad and you spent many years together so it will be a difficult time for you. Take comfort that you were there for him when he died and the last thing he would have known was that the person who loved him was there at the end. In time you will be able to remember all the good times. (((((hugs))))) xxx
