I am interested in buying hair straighteners but don't know what I need to consider.
Any tips about what to look for or what to avoid?

Thanks.

any other ceramic straighteners that go up to 230degrees are as good as ghds. I like mine to have an automatic switch off after 60 mins to be on safe side. You can also get more rounded ones that will straighten and curl.

they have those in tesco on sale shivvy x
Thanks for info erin - but I don't think the Babyliss one uses steam which I really need as I dry my hair first then curl the ends. I also like the cordless ones to take away with me.
I can still get my Braun smoothstyler on Ebay but as they are now discontinued the prices are getting higher and higher as people are cashing in! I have been able to still get the Braun (blue) canisters (4 for £7.50ish) from Boots and Wilkinsons but even they are getting scarce now.

Thanks 4get but I went on ahead and bought those ones on amazon for £20. I'm sure they will do the job well. They are ceramic and heat to 230 which is what you recommended.
Thanks again.
