According to Pointless this evening Great Britain have won the Eurovision
five times. Can anyone tell me what the songs [and the artistes] are?
Also in 1958 we didn't take part, does anyone know the reason why not?

I've no idea about 1958, but it really wasn't a big deal in those days. This was practically before Wogan was born, remember. I don't think people began to sit up and take notice until Sandy Shaw won it.

I remember her debuting Puppet on a String on the Rolf Harris Show, along with other possible entries; the one she sang was chosen by viewers. She got the first few bars all wrong and had to stop and begin again.

The Bucks Fizz one brings a smile to my face, my daughter used to go mad
when that was on the radio. So much so that she could push her play-pen
round the floor! Don't know if anyone still uses playpens?

I still say we were bitterly robbed when Gina G did it for us, what a fantastic Euro song that was and it got barely nowhere, i've been disenchanted with the thing ever since, but I still avidly watch it each year- grumbling away.

We were miffed at doing so poorly in the event the previous year so refused to enter in 1958. In '56 we registered too late to take part. These were the 2 years when we had no UK Eurovision entry.
