Surgical instrument left in gum by dentist

My daughter went to a dentist and the x ray showed what he guessed(can't be definite without opening her gum up)a spiral shaped tiny bit of a surgical instrument that was probably left in when she had extensive root canal work done in Crete 3 yrs ago.He said she would have to go to a specialist dental surgeon to have it taken out which would be very expensive.As she is a low earner it would seem restrictive.Anyone out there any experience of this or are you a dentist and have any advice to offer?Is it harmful?Could it dislodge and cause trouble?

can she not be referred to the max fax taem at the local hospital?

Try her local doctor .. who may refer through NHS?

If she is a low earner she may be eligible for working tax credits and then maybe eligible for free dental treatment.

I would think it could be left alone esp. if it hasn't caused her any discomfort. Just keep an eye on it.
