Are there different ways to tweet?

Is there a standard for tweeting? Is there a specific way that one should be "tweeting" and "hash tagging" that if done incorrectly, can be considered wrong, or just plain stupid seeming?

I dont often use # tagging as it gives way for lunatics to reply (aka random people)
