Cornflakes ---- Iron Filings

Gef states that cornflakes contain iron filings in answer to a previous question. Is there any evidence of this ?

just tested my entire box of cornflakes, not one magnetic flake among them... i suspect that the iron content is so minimal it actually does you good if it's there at all, come on gef tell us more

Apologies, but I forgot all about the original question. At work I have a book of experiments published by the Royal Society of Chemistry and, hopefully, I will remember to look up the details tomorrow. I do remember that the cornflakes themselves are not magnetic but if you grind them to a very fine powder then you can extract the iron with a magnet.

I have not forgotten that I have forgotten to look up the info about Cornflakes - its just that I remember at home and not at work. Please keep posting reminders.

Try this, Grind up the corn flakes into a fine powder then place on a sheet of paper. Place a magnet under the sheet and draw it away from the cornflakes.....There should be some black power (iron filings). I haven't tried this but It is supposed to work!
