"no-one in their right mind would bid days in advance because it simply drives the price up and up" . Nox I agree, I never bid till the end and nowhere have I said anything about bidding early.
It was tongue in cheek when I said it was unfair. However you are at a disadvantage when you are bidding against people who are using sniping software and I do feel it is against the spirit of the site, that's one reason I don't use it.
Clearly peeps wouldn't be installing the software if they weren't gaining an advantage.
We're never going to see eye 2 eye on this so bye.

I do not see the point in it . Just bid your absolute maximum but make sure you put it as a max bid. Ebay will only use as much of your max as is needed to keep you in the lead. The highest bid will win regardless of how it is placed sniper or straight bid. You can place a max bid hours or days before the auction ends and just let it sit there.
Doing it this way means you are not tempted to keep upping your bid and end up regreting it as you got carried away and bid too much. One thing about ebay is there will always be another item along soon. Do you know you can have a 'wish list' on eBay and it will alert you when an item matching your wish list is put up?

No idea why she thinks it's unfair Shakespearian, I have bid myself and maybe been beaten by sniper software and I've also probably beaten it when other people people are using it, it's all about maximum bid and not allowing the opposition time to up theirs- doesn't matter whether you've bid via software or with your own grubby little paws I don't think:)
