freezing computer

Could one of you computer buffs give me a reason for my computer freezing when left on sceen saver.The only way I can unfreeze it is to turn of at mains then reboot.I am using vista and BT

Change the screen saver or turn it off and see if you still have the problem first.

What is the process to do that as can't remember how I did it some time ago

Probably to do the the display setting the screensaver uses. It changes the resolution to one not supported by graphics card.
Try opening settings for the screensaver in the screensaver menu .. and look for 'desktop' setting .. or try something same or smaller than the resolution you are using. Then try 800x600.

1.Open Screen Saver Settings by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Screen Saver.

2.Under Screen saver, in the drop-down list, click the screen saver you want to use.

3.Click Preview to see what your chosen screen saver will look like.

4.Click OK.
