where I get my dramatic side from.

On watching my Dad struggle to open a new bottle of cod liver oil tablets (he didn't realise it was as simple as squeezing the sides of the lid and twisting) he was then confronted by a piece of foil over the top of the bottle. "I might aswell just comit suicide, why do they make life so hard" was his reaction.

It's amazing he's made it to his 60's.

You've identified a difficult problem for many people though evian - the damned bottles don't want to open, I saw an old lady take one back to the chemist the other day, for help to take the lid off.
I have lurked by the front gate, bottle in hand waiting for someone to go by to ask them to open it for me. My hands (arthritis) are just not strong enough to squeeze the top and it is quite difficult for my stiff fingers to grip the silver top. I know it keeps the pills fresh but as well as being child proof they are also old and arthritis proof. Time for the manufacturers to have a rethink.

Well this one did seem particularly easy if he had just studied the lid for a second and it was a pretty flimsy little lid (I did it for him in about two seconds) although he does have some problems with his left hand (and he's left handed) following a stroke. I can see it must be a problem if you do have problems with your hands, especially with proper medicine bottles that have really stiff lids.

It was just his reaction that caught me.
I realised after I had posted evian that your thread was about your father's reaction and not about opening the bottles. However, I can imagine his frustration and his over the top reaction. Lovely.
My Dad would have been swearing at it under his breath....

They actually appear to be more helpless when someone is there to do it for them.
I've been known to saw the top off with a knife, LOL...

I think you're right Ummmm. The amount of stuff he asks me or my sister to do that would be just as easy for him to do himself. Oh well. Suppose he's done his fair bit for us over the years.

Lol Boxtops. That reminded me of the time the can opener broke when he was trying to open a Fray Bentos pie. The next thing I know he's hacking away at it with a huge woodsaw! lol

You pay attention to the little things they struggle with...

My Dad would come round...dig my garden...build a wall...manly stuff. But god forbid could that man figure out how to use a cash point!!! He was adamant he had to use the cash point at the bank he'd opened his account at....which meant every Saturday morning I'd have to drive him to the cashpoint...

Lol Ummm. Sounds similar to my Dad. Bless them and their simple minds. :)

DD67 - am I missing something?
Im fine with medication bottles but "Listerine" mouthwash, the clear plastic cover over the lids must have been the work of the Devil himself!!

Oh I see. I thought you were talking about Ummmm, like you knew her.

Ratter I do actually have that problem too. I usually end up throwing it down myself in the process.
I've had a baby car seat in my car for over a year now and both my parents still don't know how to loosen the belts despite me showing them a hundred times!
I recognise his attitude completely.
I would have lobbed it over the fence by now, not sure where i get it from either, but age plays a large part. Frustration at not being able to open bottles, and particularly things like bleach, press sides, but not always does it work.
