It's because it's largely a hidden crime, and lets not forget that police records, stats, call them what you will, have 2 women every week killed by a partner, husband, boyfriend, shouldn't that shock people too.

attacks or harmed, people should not be complacent, but this goes on behind closed doors, that is the biggest problem, and if women don't report it, or end up in hospital but won't say who was responsible then it will continue. The more women report it, and the law prosecute those responsible, then you might see this on the decrease, until then it will continue, i reckon those figures are on the light side

While so called "honour killings" are awful, we in the "white" community need not be so smug as there are about 2 female partners PER WEEK killed by their male partner.

And domestic violence between "white" couples (mostly male on female) is also pretty common.

There might be 2 women killed a week....but it's the reasons behind the killings that's the issue. In the 'white' community, you don't expect to have an argument with your partner and then get killed by his cousin...

These are arranged killings/maimings by other family members.

Ummm - I've worked in plenty of white estates where families were embroiled in endless feuds and would stab / torch or better still put the word out that X is a paedo.

You cannot compare honour killings with domestic violence. You cannot compare being hunted down by your own family, the people that should protect you....for stepping out of line, with a 'white estate' feud...

Some of these women are being killed just for leaving a violent marriage.

I agree partly Ummm. And again from experience, I think on white estates there is a basic awareness of the law. In the communities under discussion here there is a widespread misconception that the law does not apply to 'private' matters.

Societies only work when people accept their responsibilities along with the rights which society confers.

we should all be vigilant, but having heard my neighbours having a fearful row recently, i was absolutely terrified, as not just one or two involved, so called the police, and not for the first time. They came and sorted it out, but you hear lot's of screaming, sometimes it's kids larking about, but you can't always tell.

God, not another thread moaning about how cats and dogs get more respect than humans when they are killed! What a load of twaddle. Cruelty and murder in any form to any creature human or animal is indefensible and you can't blame the cats and dogs if people care about them. Why should anyone or anything suffer - the human race is vile and still has a hell of a lot to learn. By all means post your thread, but leave defenceless animals out of it !!
