fedex delivering parcel

purchased an item on 27th Nov on the net. item was sent via fedex and was given the tracking number. i have just been and questioned the delivery with the seller who states it was delivered on 29th. i have been on fedex site and it says it was signed by (HADDLEY) whoever this is??
ive been on to the police who've told me to contact fedex and take it up with them but has its signed for im never going to receive the item!!!
now need to ring fedex monday morning to take it up with them.

where do i stand with this item as in my eyes its been stolen.

I wouldn't leave anything outside my front door except the dustbin - once you leave it, it's gone, that's part of the deal in our road (not stolen, recycled).
We had a letter delivered today which was to our number and road but in a town hundreds of miles away - good use of the postcode, eh?!
