Have a new laptop but no printer as yet. There are so many out there I don't know where to start looking. Any suggestions - obviously cost of ink would have to be considered. TIA

How long is a piece of string?
It depends on what you will be printing and how much of it. Will you be doing lots of colour work at high quality or mostly text.
My setup is mono HP Laserjet as I do mostly text and I have a cheap Epson Inkjet for the small amount of colour that I do.
HP, Epson and Canon all have good reputation.

Thanks for that Howard. Will be doing just the odd page of text, not that much at all. May occasionally want colour, but think I can get round this one. Will have a look at the ones you suggested.
We bought a kodak as this was recommended but have had a few problems. When we updated software it did not work had to uninstall and reinstall a few times. When the paper is low it gets caught up in the mechanism. When the colour ink is dry you cannot print even if it is black and white. Though none of the problems are major I would not recommend.
I would echo what Gavmacp has said I, never do any colour printing but it still uses a couple of colour cartridges a year, and as Gav has said. I have seriously considered binning it and buying a cheap printer £30 or so, it will come with the appropriate colour cartridges which I wont use and a black cartridge would be cheaper than both cartridges for the Kodak. Definitely would not recommend.
Following on from above 2 posts. If you buy an inkjet I would recommend that you get one with separate cartridges. If you buy one that uses a combined colour cartridge you will throw away a lot of unused ink.
