I've heard of stuff you get to put on your skin to reduce the appearance of scars - does anyone know what it's called and does it work?

My mum uses Bio oil, they used to use it in hospitals but now you can buy it in the chemists.
yes bio oil is very very good
My wife 'borrowed' some gel like stuff from work once after I'd been punched in the mouth and had my lip split. Forgotten what it was called now... it looked really daft for a week or so, but you can hardly see the scar now. I'll try and find out what it was.
hi chazza, do you mean like camaflouge or something, if your scars or birth marks ect are very large or disfiguring you can be referred to a skin specialist where you can have this treatment free, they also give a form for repeat prescriptions for the special stuff, its not for everyday use but special occasions when you need to look your best, weddings, holidays ect.
Fade outs quite good.years ago I had half of my nose ripped off..by a dog..I had 3 years of operations(a flap from my forehead was used to cover the nose)I did go to the red-cross(they had a room at the local hospital)where they used camaflouge..cliff mentioned it.and its really very good.bio oil is good to.
Chazza - I used a prescription for scars from a burn and it worked. For the life of me I cannot think of what it was called, but it was just a cream I used twice each day and the redness in the scars went away. Shall I ring the doctor and ask what it was? I do not mind a bit if you think it worth it.

i got given sheet of gel i think its called cicagel. Basically it was like latex type stuff and its adhesive you have to slowly build up the time you wear it over the scar worked pretty well.

When my husband smashed his nose, I opened Vitamin E capsules and smeared the oil on his nose each day. Even our doctor was impressed with the lack of scarring. It really works.

the burns unit at odstock hospital recommends vitamin e cream to reduce scarring worked on a frisnds 18 month old daughter after an accident with scalding coffee

I was recommended to rub E45 cream into my operation scar. It's obtainable from chemist. It keeps the skin moist and helps healing. In time many scars will fade but applied in the weeks after surgery it will also ease the itching which sometimes occurs when skin is healing.
