Oh, hang on, I see where the difference arises. The BBC website quotes mean wind speeds whereas it's the gusts that look set to cause some problems tomorrow:

Sherr:
The map here shows tomorrow's wind speeds for the whole country. (The circled figures are mean speeds. The red boxes show gusts). You can click on the little boxes under 'Thursday' to see how things will progress over 3-hourly intervals:

As a person that has a keen interest in wind, this is better than the met office for wind forecasts IMO...

Hi Carlton,
Good to see you on, sir....:0)
I'm in the Brighton area specifically, but I do travel all over the southern parts of East and West Sussex and along the coast on occasion, so look at the forecasts regularly....the gusts can be quite strong indeed......we have an area on the A27 at Shoreham-by-sea flyover, near the airport, that, if it is really windy, is treacherous to drive along, as the gusts can easily take you, so you really have to take the wheel firmly when passing .......and guess what?..... I'm there tommorrow as off west to Chichester, but we are just getting 'strong winds' warning.....not sure what i'll get till the morning forecast and when I pass there about 11.00am.
Be careful, guys if out in the bad area's going to be hit. :0)
