Funny taste in mouth

Hi - for the last couple of days I've had a sort of salty taste in my mouth, with no obvious explanation, and today I was eating a lolly and it tasted horrible & chemically (I even took it out of my mouth to see why it was so yukky, but it looked fine).
I have a slight cold at the moment, but have never had this before & just wondered whether anyone else had experienced anything similar

Have you been taking any tablets for your cold as sometimes tablets can give you a strange taste in your mouth.

the most likeliest cause in your case, is your cold.

Hi - no I've taken no tablets. It's not a major cold, just a bit of a sniffle. Thanks for reassurance :o)

As sqad said there can be a few reasons for this,in my case about a year ago i had the same thing,the taste of salt was so strong it was putting me off food and had a constant salt taste throughout the day,anyway I went to my g.p and a quick examination later he diagnosed a sinus infection,I had a cold a few weeks previous to this and he said(this is gross)that the sinus's were dripping fluid from my nose and surounding area to the back of my mouth causing the salty taste....anyway anti biotics sorted it out within the week.....get to your doc alliegid,dont suffer.

My mum lost her sense of smell & taste years ago, and I was worrying that I'm going the same way

could you be pregnant? a friend of mine had an odd chemically taste in her mouth with both pregnancies.

It's called disguesia (sp)

Update - cold & salty taste now gone - so panic over. Thanks for all the information x
