Any ideas how I can get a charity going at work in which employees buy xmas presents for disadvantaged children?

Many years ago I worked for a company that organised a charity at Christmas whereby employees who wanted to participate could choose a present to buy for a child in a hospital or an orphanage etc and all the presents were collected and put under the company's tree until a charity collected and delivered them to the children

I thought it was a great idea and wondered if anyone worked for a company that does it and how it is organised or any ideas for how I could go about it?
