P&P when selling on ebay.

I am trying to sell something on Ebay. The P&P will cost me around £7. However when I am listing the item I keep getting the message that the P&P cannot be more than £2.50 and I cannot list the item. Does anyone know how I can list the P&P as £7?

You can try listing your item in a different but still relevant category. Most clothing for example has a limit of (I think) £3.99 but if you're selling something like a coat or waterproof jacket that doesn't come close to covering costs.

As Douglas says, it's all to do with the category you're listing in. I'm not sure if they have changed it now, but when eBay first introduced these p & p limits, they put something ridiculous like £2 limit on books, when as you know some books weigh an absolute ton.

I got really fed up with the ebay postage problems, and phoned them and told them that the only reason they were doing the postage limit was to encourage people to take the other option of free postage, which they ( ebay) know you add onto the price of the item, and then ebay get more commission as the final price is much higher. It came almost to a shouting match, and the young lady, who was Irish, told me to and @@@ myself. a few days later, one of my best selling items was withdrawn by ebay as they said I was cloning, using the advert to advertise a seperate item. my feedback on ebay is over 7000, ( I have two online shops) so they don't appear to really care about anyone, its just all money to them. An option is to advertise the item, then put a note about the carriage cost in the listing, then use the "couriour or other" postage option, which leaves it to you to advise the customer of the postage cost and you have to do a paypal invoice. free postage is easier.

Just put on the page that there will be an additional £7 for packing or say to email for postal charges.

i used to work for telecom eireanne, so I can recognise a southern irish accent a mile away, She was definetly a cork lass, a wonderful fiery spirit. we had a great time shouting at each other, really cured the boredom of the day.

flobadob, everyone who says it's the category is right. There are ceilings on different categories and it tells you what they are, at the point where you try to enter your postage. I compensate for that by adding the extra cost to the starting price of the article, but I always comment about that in my listing so the buyer is aware that the postage being asked is much too little.

Most sellers try to charge more P&P than what it cost, I always ask them why so much and they usually drop their price.
