FAO Ratter or Carakeel
Hi hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of contacting a friend of mine who has kept and rescued Great Danes for longer than she cares to remember to ask her advice on anaesthesia protocol for giant breeds. I knew she had advised many Dane owners of this over the years, here is her reply.....
It's propofol to induce anaesthesia and isoflurane to maintain it.
He should also ask the vet to do a quick blood test to test kidney and liver function and clotting times. It isn't a full blood panel checking for all sorts of health issues but it should ease his mind with regard to the surgery.
Hope this may help you out tomorrow.

Well, except for the near heart attack I had when they told me how much the bill was, lol! In the end though all that matters is that our little girl is safe and well and her paw has the best chance of healing. Thanks so much for your support! xxx
