Has anyone got a Nikkon D70S?

Not sure where to post this but can anyone advise on the correct setting to take photos with a Nikkon D70S on "B". I've tried just altering the setting to B, but sometimes the whole viewfinder goes red and it won't take the picture. It doesn't always go red. Sometimes it will take it. I'm baffled. I just thought I had to set it to "B", then off we go. Can anyone help please? Thanks.
