My sister's fed up with her slow laptop and is thinking of replacing it with a netbook - I now can't remember any of the arguments against netbooks! She doesn't download films or music, doesn't watch dvds - a computer's just for the odd email, browsing for cheap flights, holidays, checking review sites. What are the disadvantages of netbooks?

Netbook generally have slower CPUs than laptops (to save on battery life) so will generally be even slower than a laptop.

However none of the things she seems to use it for (email, internet) require a fast laptop so your sure it is not her internet CONNECTION that is slow rather than her laptop.

If her broadband is slow then web pages will take longer to display, emails will take longer to display, making it look like it is her laptop that is slow when it is not.

So buying a netbook, or another laptop, may not make any difference.

Thanks, both of you.
My sister's useless with computers and I think her present laptop is really slow because she's never deleted anything, never done a defrag etc. She also wants a nice small thing that she can use in her bedroom - I've told her that she'll need todo more maintenancewhatever she uses!
Odds are the "slow" problem is her inernet connection and it will make absolutely no difference what machine she connects to it.
