Abbreviations

I am absolutlely hopeless at abbreviations on here.
Recently I asked what imo meant and I was told that one, but wondered if you could give me a few others with their meanings.
PMSL has just been written on one of my jokes but I don't know what that means :-(

ChuckFickens in my day I think STD had something to do with Telephones. Can't remember what but I think it might have been something to do with codes.

it was/is also that, in telephone speak it would be subscriber trunk dialling

oohh Missprim, that takes me back. Various television competitions and the like would say phone in and don't forget to tell us your STD code. How times change....

Hence the phrase: "SDTs - you can't catch them off a telephone, but you can off a telephonist..."
