Your Mum and Dad.
18 Answers
This morning my feet are like two blocks of ice and I was just wishing my Mum was still here to warm them for me.
During the winter months as I was growing up, my Mum would listen for me coming in the front door and she would stand in front of the fire with her pinny on.
Then I would take my shoes off and she would wrap my cold feet in her warm pinny.
Which single act of kindness do you think of about your Mum or Dad.
It doesn't have to be kindess, perhaps there is something else you remember about them whether they are still with us or not.

We had a fireplace in every bedroom and my dad would take a shovelful of glowing coals up to my bedroom to take the chill off before I went to bed. He also polished all our shoes every night. Lived til he was 95 and I still miss him every day.
I`ll always remember my late dad who used to come home from his night shift at 6am and he would polish my school shoes and leave them inside the front door with a Mars bar inside (my favourite). And my mum would always bake a fruit cake for us all to eat when we got to the park on a sunday afternoon. No wonder we all have sweet tooths but No we are not all overweight as a result
TOH and Missprim - yes you may be right, dad was in the army during WW2 and was quite regimental in many ways. Always stood to attention for "The Queen" and doffed his hat when he met any lady he knew. Also stood to attention when a funeral cortege passed. You're bringing all the memories flooding back.

For me it was my Grandmother.
When I was met at the school gates it meant a trip to Woolworths for a toy.
She one night when babysitting made a Battenberg cake for us. It looked awful but to us was magic.
My father also cleaned our shoes, he also repaired them. He only had one leg so he always had one shoe that was worn the other one was like new.

I feel so sad for those of you who no longer have your beloved parents. I am so lucky to still have both of mine at 80 and 83 respectively. I have many memories though, like Mum smiling up at me from her chair when I came home from school (priceless that having Mum at home waiting for me) and Dad riding his bike with me sat on the handlebar, how safe and secure I felt. Dad still cooks our Christmas dinner after all these years and I dread the day he no longer does.
