Hi,

I am hoping someone could offer some advice regarding a fault with my Wife's Nissan Micra (2004). When we try and start the Car, we get nothing, not even the engine turns over. The battery is only 6 weeks old so I don't think this is the problem, and all of the lights work fine. I can start the car with jump leads, and it bumps starts really easily. My knowledge of cars is almost non existent, but I was thinking maybe a problem with the starter motor.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Also, if it was the starter motor, any ideas as to a rough cost to get this fixed?

If the starter motor is just jammed it may be quite easy to fix. I remember my father used to rock the car and/or tap the motor with a hammer but I guess he knew what he was doing - I wouldn't try it!
Faulty Battery, get it checked.
I agree with TWR. If it starts OK with jump leads it's almost certainly a faulty battery or the alternator isn't recharging the battery. Most motor spares dealers will do a free check for you.

Thank you all for your answers, I will get the battery checked out asap.
Check battery terminals are good.
Then suspect battery.
If ignition lights are normal with jump .. and car starts fine/quickly .. it will be a duff battery.
