I have lost all sound from the speakers of my computer. I have tried all the usual stuff of right clicking the speaker icon and playing with things in there. I have even fitted a sound card and still nothing. Can anybody help ?
Can't see any hardware reasons why onboard and an additional card wouldn't work (assuming you've tested the speakers, etc on something else) so it can only be a software problem, Either drivers or OS.
with so many possible playback devices installed have you "played about" enough to check that the correct one is set as the default?
It was originally a sound card built into the motherboard (ASUS p5k se series) Windows Vista. I have now fitted a creative sound blaster sound card with the latest drivers

What does Device Manager actually say? (against Sound and audio devices)
What sound hardware is actually in use? Onboard or Card?
I use a Creative card with onboard sound disabled in BIOS.
DeVMgr is your friend in this case. When you open it, check the 'show hidden devices' dropdown.
If you want headphones to work, you will probably need to use the Creative Console too ... and uncheck 'headphone detection' in it's settings.
I use an X-Fi Music card.
