My new house has a dirty limescale ring around the water level in the toilet bowl. I have tried coke I have tried bleach , caustic soda, and various proprietry cleanser, before I go nuclear are there any suggestions?
It could be that someone has put paint down the loo.We found this in my daughter's flat when she bought it. No amount of caustic, bleach etc could shift it. I had to get in there with gloves and a scraper to get it all off - but it was worth it in the end. Good luck.
using a pumice stone should do it, but you have to be entle so as not to scratch the bowl, but by far i have found the best loo cleaner for limescale is Harpic 100% limescale remover, leave it over night and scrub with the brush, it may take a few goes, but our toilet looks like new!
Agree with Boobesque - Harpic is the stuff. If you can find the original powdered version, it's even better. I would also suggest you get in there with rubber gloves and Scotchbrite (or equivalent).
Hi Thanks,
I've tried Scotch Brite and plastic /copper scourers and even a flat bladed knife, tried Klin and jml spoitless, which took several decades of fat and grease of my old aunties wall by the side of her cooker but I think this is years of limescale ...will checkout the powdered harpic.
hate to state the obvious but a new toilet bowl is only 25 quid in wickes , assuming its white of course .. you've prbabl;y spent nearly that on products !
Its part of a frikkin contemporary styled powder blue suite.
I have got me some harpic tablets and am using a scarey amount. I feel sorry for the water treatment plant glad there is a lot of rain. If I try to scrub it anymore I'll go thru the porcelain. Having renovated several houses b4 this one bog has so far been my nemesis. Still its only Limescale ... they say
Try emptying all the water out of the loo,dry it well then tip down it Distilled white vineger, to above the marks leave as long as possible, if there is still some marks left dry then put on Limlite over them, if still there, get a new bowl. Hope this helps.
Well I have tried harpic 100% and sterident. today I went at it with wood chisels.using hand force only.Iit worked and the limescale was over 1/4 if an inch thich in some places. I got almost of it off ...in chunks.
Lord knows how long it has been in there but
I HAVE TRIUMPHED
thanks to all for your advice
