Flipping baking

Actually got my wood burning stove connected up and working - but now I am too hot (and I have turned it down). I know I just need to get used to it but it is like a flipping sauna in here at the moment, roll on some relly cold weather!

Hi mad - himself actually has a business installing wood burning stoves so we are on the case. It has been sittting in the fireplace for about two months but he has been too busy to actually fit it properly. It will be brill when it is a bit colder, the temperature thing on my phone says its 11 degrees so probably a bit too warm for it today.
I'm sitting by ours now (dog is even closer to it!) Seems yours is a case of 'the cobbler's children going without shoes'. We live on the west coast so the atmosphere tends to be damp so we usually light the fire at about 3-4pm when we've finished our various jobs about the place. I would hate to be without it.
Hi Mrs C, been feeling brill since Monday, thanks. We live in rented and there used to be a gas fire, we have put this in at our own expense (with our landlord's agreement) and have had to put in a rigid flue system. They are going to make it illegal to put in a proper fire quite soon (and they are not massively efficient). Once I get the hang of this (and when it is a bit colder) it will be fine. It's a lovely stove that you can turn up and down but we got it at cost price (and the fitting was free - eventually).
Glad to hear you're in fine fettle now lass. :o)
We got our fireplace opened up in January and we're still waiting for the HETAS certificate. I think the fitter is giving us the runaround. :o(
Btw, are you sure about it becoming illegal to have an open fire? Our fitter mentioned that from next year it's gonna be illegal to have a damper fitted on an open fire, but as far as I could gather, you can still open up the fire.
He fitted us a fire without a damper, in error, and had to come and take it out and replace it with the correct fire, complete with damper. He was not best pleased with us but it was the shop's mistake.

Hi Mrs C, sorry for the confusion. It's not going to be illegal to have one but they are going to make it so you can't have one installed where there isn't one already (you can re-use an old fireplace). Personally, I think it is to make people have wood burning stoves (as they are not cheap to have done if put in properly - bit of a case of jobs for the boys). With regard to your HETAS certificate, you could maybe contact HETAS directly, they are really strict!
Hiya Sherr.
I might end up contacting HETAS but I'm hoping the shop will sort it out for me - I'm right annoyed but managing to keep my cool with them (so far). I think I'm being pretty patient seeing that it's coming up for a year since we had the work done. :o(
The reason we didn't go for a wood burner is that our room is quite small and we thought we'd end up being too warm. We already have central heating so the open fire's more for aesthetics and it does look good when lit. I'm soooo glad my OH doesn't mind cleaning it - that's a job I hate.
