Put it this way your dogs about 77, I'm in my 50's and in the cold dark winter, I want to get home ASAP as well, give your smart dog a pat, coz smart he is!
I've got the same problem with Max my 10 year old GSD. We've been to the vet who could find no problems, he shows no sign of distress but some days he just doesn't want to walk, he does his poo and wee's then heads back to the car. It's just old age creeping up I'm afraid.
I have a 13 year old who has really slowed down in the last year. She only goes as far as she needs to fulfil the natural bodily function and turns around and heads home. At home she sleeps all day.
If she's not ill, its just a sign of ageing. However if your worried get a vet to have a look to ensure nothings blocked or stopped working.

Thank you, i think you are right. A mixture of old age and arthritis.
Just brought him a warm fleece coat, perhaps he will want to go out one day with it on
just check between his digits and pads - it's probably arthritis but sometimes they get hard build ups inbetween toes and/or pads which make it uncomfortable to walk.
This was the beginning of my dogs downward spiral, I thought she just had arthritis, but it was much more serious than that. My dog was very large dog, lived to be 11 years, 6 mos. I hope you can find a competent dog.
