I have two cats and this other cat keeps coming in at the moment and finishing off all their food, which aside from anything else is costing me a fortune!! my two don't seem particualrly bothered about defending their territory, but don't seem to mind waking me up at 3am because they're hungry either.  Is there anything i can do to discourage this cat.  It's very wary of me (or very smart) and i've never got very near it. tia x

I agree with Ward-Minter, but your other problem is a cat that treats your property as his/her territory. If you have spayed females, they are at the lowest end of a cat heirarchy, so you will need to sort the intruder out yourself. A childs water pistol works wonders.
Get a Dog, much better pets

I don't agree, my mum had the same problem. she had 3 cats, the poor little cats had to be lined up in a certin poistion to get in just so the coller matched the catflap, in the end one cat got so fed up, she just run head first right though it, lol and broke it. it was very funny poor little thing.

thats just my view it was years ago they have probley made them better now.

Put them on a schedule for feeding, put it down for 1/2 hour and if they eat okay, if not pick it up, and try later. The other cat won't have access to it, (OR get the flap with a controled collar). That way your cats will become use to eating on a schedule, and it will spoil the other cats trespassing, and ignore the 3 am wake up call if you let them wake you they will keep doing it.

Just a thought take it or leave it.

thanks for your answers, but i can't get collar's on them, they hate them. I don't get up at 3 am, just wake up, so hopefully they'll grow out of that habit. I guess they're just going to have to sort it out themselves. thanks anyway
I don't believe in giving an outdoor cat a collar anyway, I always worry in case they get caught whilst out roaming and can't get free.
try one of those machine cat flaps that only let ur cats in by a device fitted in thier collars.

I have a very healthy big male tom cat which is 15, and has a good reputation up my road for going into peoples sheds and eating there cats food, (even though he is well fed at home) I cant give him dry food his kidneys cant cope with it. he then proceeds to throw the hole lot up out side my neighbours back doors coz hes over eaten...the magnetic cat flap that lets your cat in and no one elses do work depending upon how determined the cat is to get in, mine has broken 3 down our road they were not happy people and said they would kick him if he kept eating there food, i read about the water trick. throwing it out the bedroom window so that the cat cant see where it is coming from and soon they asociate not to go there. i do get a wet cat quite frequantly...but better for the cat than harm
