Buying online for a different country

Hello all
My brother has just moved to Australia with his young family. I attempted to buy some Christmas presents online from Amazon, but they wanted to charge me £15 to ship it!. Does anyone know any Australian websites which I can use to pay with my debit card, thus avoiding shipping charges.

when my daughter was in Chicago I bought stuff on international ebay which was local to them so delivery charge was ok.

I've never found anything really .My bro has been in Australia for donkeys years
Postage is extortionate .Every year I look for something that could be cheaper but end up sending lightweight stuff .This year it cost mega money to send an audio book and some costume jewelery .
When all the nieces and nephs were younger I just used to write cheques :)

In Google, enter 'google australia' and click to get onto Google's Australian website. Then, instead of a Google Search returning uk websites, it'll give you the Aussie ones. That way you'll be able to look up Aussie retailers for the sort of gifts you have in mind.

As Heathfield suggests, you might find a retailer in Oz who will ship your purchases at local rates:

However, irrespective of the location of any seller, you need to remember that (in order to prevent fraud) many retailers will only send goods to the same address that the purchaser's debit or credit card is registered to.

Chris, most retailers will send to the address of the card holder but also have a section where they will ship to a different address. Amazon in the UK have this. I have bought items from American (and other countries) websites many times and they are perfectly happy to ship to wherever you want (I usually ship to a US hotel and pick up the goods from there).

I've done that on eBay too - people have bought from me and asked me to mail to another country as a gift. They pay extra for the mailing, obviously - and last year I even gift-wrapped a Christmas present for someone who wanted me to send it to her sister in Europe!

Try Myer department store`s website (they used to be called Grace Brothers)! They are local and a bit like House of Fraser.

Thanks everyone for your input. Amazon was the site which tried to charge me a large postage fee. but I was spending less than £25. Maybe that is the answer.
