radiators

My radiators are getting hot at the top but luke warm at the bottom, is this right, if not how do i fix the problem, also i cant switch the heating to come on without starting the water to heat up, im sure they used to do it indepentatley of each other before, any ideas, thanks, Mark

Don't know about your system, but in mine, the radiator heat tranference pipes run through the hot water storage tank, so you can't have radiators and no hot water. You can however have hot water and no radiators.

To fix the problem, you need to 'bleed' the air out of your radiators. Your local hardware store will sell you a 'bleed' key and explain how to use it. It's very easy - start with the ground floor, and then upstairs. Do it every couple of months to let the air out.

If they are hot at the top then I doubt bleeding will work. You will probably find that there is loads of cr*p in the bottom of the radiator.

What you really need to do is take off the radiator and put a garden hose to it and flush it through.

Yep, I agree with Oneeyedvic. If they were hot at the bottom and cold at the top then that would mean there was air in the system but the other way round usually means sludge in the system.
