Cooked soup today for lunch. Poured it into blender and it went right to the top. Switched on and got boiling soup over clothes, kitchen and worst of all my left hand. What I really wanted to ask is do we ever learn. Thinking back I could have predicted what was going to happen. As I am now over sixty surely common sense should be kicking in by now??????

Grasscarp - being 60+ is no bar to doing something stupid. On Christmas Eve I decided to cut slices off a cooked leg of lamb and was just thinking 'I don't think this is a good way to do this...' when the knife slipped. Luckily the knuckle bone stopped me slicing the whole finger off and I was able to have my lamb sandwich three hours later. Thank God for the walk-in clinic!
Oven gloves against the gas burner is my favourite....three lots I have set fire to LOL and only just 50!!

Oh dear terry, that is awful. I did something similar many years ago, when I was in charge of several small children, two of which needed my help at that same moment. It was also foggy outside so little chance of rushing off to A&E.
grasscarp - have you got an aloe vera plant - snap a piece off and bathe burn with the sap - works wonders
My blender always does just the same it shoots soup out of the top and every year my kitchen is nicely decorated in turkey soup! But this year Santa bought me a hand blender (just one from Argos cheapest range to see how it works (£4.49!!!!!) and would you believe it, its a doddle, once I got the hang of it and kept the blade well down in the soup mixture in the saucepan, it worked a treat and I just unscrewed the blade end and rinsed under the tap to clean - wonderful and all for £4.49 Thanks Santa its SOUPER!

My daughter has the aloe vera plant and the blender for me and I will get them tomorrow. Thankfully the pain in my hand all gone now. Many thanks for all your kind words and suggestions. Much appreciated.
Top tip: (which I should have remembered yesterday)...............Never attempt to cut cheese with a large bread knife when you're pissed.
Try some lavender oil on the burn it takes the sting right away and soothes and helps it to heal
