Log burners are not recommended for anyone with a lung condition.
I base this on no knowlege at all but, I burn logs and at times my chest/throat feels tight and my stomach feels full of smoke. The chimney is swept and has a very good draw and I have no allergies. Fortunately I'm moving next week!
do log burners not have an enclosed heat source and vent up a sealed chimney?? I was going to fit one, but my wife suffers with asthma, so I await more feedback on the subject.
My husband installs wood burners and has done the relevant course to be a 'proper' installer - he has never mentioned anything about health issues. There is only some smoke when you light it and when you open the door to put more logs on, otherrwise it is a sealed system. I am not saying this is a definitive answer, maybe you could ask your GP/consultant?

My consultant told me to avoid all forms of solid fuel burners.
