Learning to laugh

Hi,

I was heading home on the bus this afternoon and there were the usual women with their young kids etc on there but it sort of came to me while this little baby was laughing, children learn to talk by copying you so is laughing the same or is this a natural thing they do when something is funny?
I hope that makes sense! does anyone know?

I agree with Annie - I remember the first time my daughter did a really hearty laugh at some stupid voice I was doing and it was like she really couldn't help herself.

They copy your facial expressions and behaviour. It was on the Royal Institute Christmas lectures about your brain, which I found fascinating.

Yes, if we are laughing at something, the baby will often join in too, copying us, both not knowing what we are laughing about. But sometimes he will just laugh at something himself too, either something on the television or something that happens, and he will giggle.

i thinks it probably natural...

it maybe explains why some people laugh at very much the wrong moments, like at a funeral or something - they cant help it... because clearly they dont actually think anything is funny, its just a nervous physical response
