(PS: If you've got a cable company in your area, you'll almost certainly know about it because they'll have posters on every other billboard for miles around - it's a very competitive business!).
"Now" offer a wireless broadband connection which requires no landline. Prices start at 10 per month for 256k, and includes free modem. No engineer visits needed. Not available in all areas yet, as far as I know, but text your postcode to 63669 (standard text charge) and they'll tell you if your area is covered. Or go to www.now.com
Unless I'm missing something here ... !! And I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :(
Wireless broadband just sends the information from the router to the PC without the need for wires.
So ... you need to get the broadband into the house - either through a phone line or through a cable company (e.g. NTL). This goes to a modem which is conected to a router. A wireless router sends the information without wires to your laptop / PC etc.
