I have finally realised I do have a mild drink problem and am going to cut down massively. I normally drink around half a bottle of wine most nights but in the run up to Christmas this has lead to every night and ended up being most of the bottle. I am sick of it and feel groggy and tired although never hungover as such. I do not want to stop drinking altogether but want to go back to how it used to be with a few glasses on a weekend not every bloody night. It sounds so pathetic but I hope I can stick to it.

I hate to say it but 'cutting down' very rarely if ever works. There is always the tendacy to say to yourself 'just one more, won't hurt' or 'No point leaving that bit I may as well finish the bottle' You think to your self ''I'll just have one '' but it ends up as 2.
If you are serious you need to stop totally at least for a few months and then see how you feel.

Good luck tigwig
I am one of these people who take from Jan 2 off to Feb 2 (this year tomorrow until 03.02 cos of the holiday).
They say it does no good medically - well sorry I disagree as I find as I "detox" I shed some 8 to 10 pounds over the 4,5 weeks. I also come back slowly onto drinking (which is mainly wine anyway).
In addition, I often take an additional 3 weeks in August.....
I do feel better for it and no I do not crave the booze, or go through itches etc ......this year may well diet a bit too and cut back on the bacon and sausages etc, though one shouldn't really lose more than 3lbs a week - risks to gall bladder etc with accelerated dieting. The food diet does lead to one craving though - for cheese and I use that as a little "reward" for myself. As to the drink part, no such rewards - the replacement being water or the occasional unsweetened fruit juice.

Good luck Tigwig,
I'm the opposite, I'm tee-total but I treated myself to a glass of red every night over the last week. I've now finished the bottle but don't intend to buy anymore. In fact I didn't actually buy the bottle, it was given to me as a present after I had Little Tiggs and had been sitting on top of a cabinet for over 18 months! Lol

Thanks guys for the support. Can I just clarify I'm certain I wont be getting sweats lol when I dont drink. I'm talking about giving up drinking half to three quarters of a bottle of wine not a full bottle of spirits!
Also I do have kids yes but would like to point out I've NEVER EVER been too drunk to be incapable of looking after them. Yes I get happily tipsy but always in control and although I would be over the legal driving limit if anything was seriously wrong I could obviously call an ambulance.
I just recognise that I doo drink over the recommended limit thats all and do want to stop doing that or certainly every night anyway!
