Long sleeves

Had a really nice jumper for Christmas, body fits well but the sleeves are too long and wide - is there any way I can alter them? Can I machine down and cut the material off? TIA x

Knitted ? Unlikely I'd have thought. Probably run to nothing.

Roll & push them up. Treat it as a feature.

Are there any dressmakers or alteration shops near you? If it were me, because I am useless with a needle and thread, I would be going in that direction!

Roll them up, so it looks casual ...

And stitch them back, so you don't have to keep pushing them up.

That's a thought, if you gathered and sewed rather than cut, then with a little skill you may be able to hide excess.

You need someone with an overlocker to alter it for you.

I loved using the overlocker at college. If someone used that it would stop the wool from coming undone.

Almost all garments are overlocked somewhere JJ. It is just a sewing machine that seals a seam and also cuts fabric as it goes. It would prevent a knitted garment unravelling if it needed altering.

machine round the sleeve with a fairly dense zigzag and trim off the excess re-fix the cuff section with a couple of circuits of zigzag but it will never have the finish you'd want ... Id probably do a concealed tuck and hand sew it

Thank you all for you answers - Rowan I'm gonna give that a try, my machine does 3 zig-zags at a time, hopefully that'll sort it - as long as I don't come unravelled in town ;-)
