I recently bought my first Android phone - a Samsung Galaxy mini. Alas it has stopped working.

It attached itself to my wi-fi connection but can't be used for texts or calls as it says that there is 'no service'.

I will have to get in touch with Tesco (bought the phone from then on Tesco Mobile) but can anyone explain why this is happening to me so that I understand before getting in touch with them.

Thanks

This might be obvious but have you tried taking out the SIM card and putting it back in again?
Have you tried rebooting it? My HTC used to do this when I first got it but a reboot solved it every time.

Thanks - have now tried both of your suggestions. Nothing happening. I have an aeroplane symbol but nothing else.

I am going out but will be back later and have another try.

Thanks
My Galaxy S2 has a nasty habit of 'forgetting' to attach to vodafone when it has a wifi connection.

Force it to disconnect from the wifi - then it should go looking for a mobile signal - works for me :)
If it has a plane symbol might that mean it's on airplane setting?
Maybe the airplane symbol means it is in airplane mode and won't let you use wi fi as you aren't supposed to try to on a plane? If this is the case, there should be a setting somewhere to turn off plane mode.
How do I turn flight mode on or off ?

Press and hold the Power key
Tap Flight mode
You’re definitely in airplane mode, so nothing can be sent or received. If holding the power button doesn’t work, try menu, settings, wireless and networks. You can turn it off there.

Thank you all very much - the plane has gone and all is well with the phone.

I will go and play with it now.
