memorable day at the memorial
A lovely,crisp evening and 10,880-odd voices cheering..a full house..and a lovely atmosphere.
Events began with a fitting and warm tribute to Denis Dunsford, the Chairman, who had passed away. His extended family stood on the pitch, along with the two teams, too see and hear a minutes applause(I fair welled-up,1st min applause).Sombre strain of the Rovers song"Goodnight Irene"aptly was sung on the terraces(*terraces*..welcome novelty, all packed in to keep us warm..lol).Being local,my OH got us tickets,as a surprise.stood with the Rovers fans..such was the bonhomie, and warm glow(with the tribute,by a full house)..I wasnt at all uneasy about wearing my wooly Villa scarf(it was needed..brrr!)..and the bonus was,we had a crackin"view of all 3 Villa goals,by shuffling along 30-odd yards,at half-time,to the half way line(I love terraces..takes me back, ahhh!)
Marc Albrighton, continued to shine..killer ball by Petrov, and Albrighton latched on,and put the ball in the net, with a low drive.
Gabby came on,and was class..great individual goal.
Then we had late drama..Bristol Rovers got a goal, then almost in the next breath..wow,fluffed a penalty!!
So 1-3..fair result..a good game!
We thought we would celebrate with a pint in a Bohemian boozer,in Montpelier..and a little later,we enjoyed a lovely chat, with a Lass that had been on the catering at the Memorial Stadium..and she was dead chuffed to have got a photo of herself serving Kevin Keegan(working for ESPN)
Got home..lovely supper, glass of vino..and watched it all again,on TiVo..and saw us on the Telly..lol
After the warm West Country welcome..and all those Gasheads singing together..I sincerely hope Bristol Rovers turn their fortunes around..smashing Football Club!!
