Does anyone know how we can fix a bookshelf to the wall to stop it being a falling hazard for our children?

New furniture usually gives you a fixing but this is an old pine bookshelf and didn't come with anything... Grateful for any ideas.

Remove the shelve from the wall and glue a flat piece of wood to the wall where the fixings will be. you can use "no nails" or a good proprietary glue. Allow the glue 24 hours to set, (even when the instructions say less will do). Then replace the shelves by fixing the screws to the wood. You can also buy "L" shaped brackets from a hardware shop if you need extra support. Hope this helps

I'm not that confident in these new glues. Unfortunately I didn't keep track of the brands I used, but I do know I used some to stick skirting to the dining room wall, took time to use the filler where needed. A few weeks later I noticed it had come away.

You don't say what sort of wall you are fixing it to. It is is a sturdy brick one that a few decent screws into plugged holes should hold it. Really one needs to see what it is you are trying to fix. Does the old pine shelf not have places to put the screws ? Is it a simple board or something ? DIY sheds sell shelf brackets if you need them.

In any event, kids swinging on them are likely to bring them down.

No Nails ,I think there are 2 different sorts ,I have used both and I can assure you both stick things very well,I have managed twice to glue my hand to some shelving also I managed to glue my shoe to some wood that I was pressing together , eventually I had to recycle the wood throwing the shoes away with the redundant wood attached "No Nails" Best Bet although I would use a few screws as well Safer the better.

if its solid an has a back, you can just drill holes and screw in...

Mr Spudqueen fixed ours to the wall with a chain, like they use on gas cookers.

I'd simply attach a couple of mirror plates to the back of the furniture (at the top, or as near as possible) and then attach the mirror plates to the wall:
