Will I know when I've gone past a speed camera whether it has caught me speeding or do I have to wait until I get a notice of intended prosecution?

You will have to wait ... sometimes you can see the flash but then again you still wouldn't know if there was film in the camera.

I think you have to wait. With any luck it will be an empty camara with no film in it that is used as a deterrent.

If you slow down as you go past the camera it gets a much better and glamorous picture. 30 miles per hour (or whatever is the speed limit) should do!

I think the idea is that you stick to the speed limit and then it won't matter how many speed cameras you go past they take your picture!!!!

Whopps Einstein ! Don't get caught in the old 5 Day- � Weeks trap, if you're caught speeding the police have unlimited time to process your prosecution, a friend of mine was clocked and was not contacted for over 2 months, the response was pretty simply - meet you in court! He in the end accepted it (he had no legal leg to stand on) �60 fine and 3 Points. Answer is - drive at the speed limit.

You have no sure way of knowing either that you have been filmed breaking the speed limit or that you will actually receive a ticket. However the enforcement authority has to issue a notice of intended prosecution or a conditional fixed penalty offer within 14 days of the alleged offence. There are a couple of add-ons to the 14 day period. For example, the day of the offence is not included and reasonable time for postal delivery has to be allowed. So, if you've not got a ticket within 3 weeks you are unlikely to be getting one.
