It is not from a bacterial standpoint, just a personal space standpoint. I have a pink toothbrush, and it's mine. Simple. I share everything else, why should I have to share that too????
I think men wouldn't care if there were using their wife's brush, it may even hold some kind of sexual thing for them, i.e, remind them of kissing etc etc, however, I think generally, women don't like to share that sort of thing with men, what with them being all yucky and everything, and it holding some kind of sexual connotation too, like kissing (which is quite gross in the cold light of day without the passion of the moment.) I also don't like to use the loo in our bathroom if he has just been as I don't like a warm toilet seat...I prefer to walk down the hall to the children's bathroom and use theirs....
I realise this is a weird thing. I love him to bits and he is my absolute hero in EVERY way, I just prefer not to share my toothbrush. Some things must be sacred, surely. ( he has even tried to steal my deodorant if he has run out of his, as I use a fragrance free one; and I can't stand that either...all that hairy armpits on my deodorant, yucky!)
I agree gef, I meant what I said not from a squeamish point of view - I wouldn't mind sharing (though only if necessary - I just don't see why there would be a need to - toothbrushes are so cheap.
Would you wear a pair of your partners used underpants?
would you blow your nose on their used hankie?
whether you would or not...theres simply no need
i once had my ex-flatmates boyfriend using my toothbrush - as he thought it was hers...bleurgh...i only realised because my toothbrush would be wet every time i went to use it.
incidentally -
i became suspicious of his explanation, because he turned out to be an evil spiteful monster who i didn't want in my house (she was renting from me) and it was obvious my brusholder had been there a while and was in prime position - hers was just a plastic cup and one brush - and i now suspect he was doing something revolting with my brush as he became very snidey of my friendship with her and wanted us to fall out - and we did eventually fall out because of him. (i am not just paranoid - there was a long list of his spiteful games)
and the moral of the story? - i would never have noticed and mentioned it to them and have it stop if i had been sharing my toothbrush with my boyfriend.
a cautionary tale...; D
