Is it a category C or above? If so complete a v62 form available from any taxing post office or from www.direct.gov.uk/motoring and send to V.C.S., DVLA, Swansea, SA991BA with a signed letter advising the date you aquired the vehicle, and the date it was declared a total loss. You will be added to the record but as the vehicle would require a VIC check before any docs can be issued you will be sent a letter explaining along with a microfilm copy of the necessary information(takes 2-4 weeks) required for an insurance claim which you can then pass on. If it's a cat D then you still complete the v62 but send it to the address on the form(by the signature box at the bottom)enclosing either the green new keeper supplement(v5c/2 as mentioned above) or £25 fee as a cheque or postal order made payable to DVLA Swansea and you'll recieve a v5c within 4-6 weeks. Hope this helps a bit and you get this sorted soon
