I seperated from my husband 2years ago. Was told by my doctor that when I changed my name and address at the surgery that it would automatically change for all my hospital records etc. Was concerned that I had not had my mammogram appointment (I am high risk for Breast cancer and get screened every 2 years) I telephoned yesterday to be told that they still had my old name and address and had sent out 4 appointments of which the last one had been cancelled- My ex has obviously been opening these letters and then cancelled the last one as to stop recieving them(YES HE IS BITTER AND TWISTED) - I want to know if I can do anything about this as I think it is out of order and could affect my health?

He must be horrible to do such a thing and not tell you about your appointments. Even if he opened them by mistake the first time, he should have forwarded the others onto you. Hope you get sorted out ok.
Your name and address does not automatically change at the hospital if you change it at your GPs and I am suprised anyone told you that. The only way it would change is if the GP wrote to the hospital to tell them (unlikely in my quite extensive experience unfortunately) or if you called the hospital to tell them.
Whilst I sympathise, in future if appointments are that serious and important, always double check they have your correct information if you change address as there is no automatic link currently. Speak to your hospital department today and explain the situation and I am sure they will re-book your appointment.

Thanks chelle7272 - YES he is a very wicked person hence why I left him - I still have friends who live in the street and my twin brother lives around the corner from him so no excuse for him not getting the letters to me. My doctors receptionist told me that all my records would be updated through my CHI number???
I have contacted the hospital and they are sending out another appointment
I am so angry I just would like to see him punished
Beaser it is an offence to knowingly act to a person’s detriment under the Interfering with mail services act 2000, which on conviction can be punished by 6 months imprisonment or fine, it would be heard in a Magistrates Court.
Good luck with it.
The simple answer is yes, but you'd need to get the police to make the prosecution. Whether you can persuade them to take it up is another matter, in some areas they don't seem too interested in investigating things like this.

Good luck with it though, it sounds like he needs a bit of a wake-up call.

Cheers
had he just ignored them then he would not be at fault as its not his responsibility to make sure you get your mail, it is up to you to collect mail.

however the fact that he called the hospital and actually cancelled could be his undoing... i dont know how extensive the hospital are at keeping notes, but if you can get hold of the note made by the receptionist who took the call it may say something like, 'husband called to cancel' or something...unless he got a girl to call instead... but that provides evidence of a delieberate and calculated attempt to cause harm

have you received other letters from him, but he has held these ones back?

In the begining he was giving me mail but as I say its 2years now and I was due to be seen for mammaogram in October last year. He isn't happy that I have moved on in my life although he has too but some people are just bitter and very twisted. If it wasn't such a important thing I wouldn't be so annoyed just can't believe even he would be so wicked. Would like to pursue this further but as previous post say how easy would it be to prove?
THANKS
impossible.
Did they tell you someone had cancelled the appointment or that it had been cancelled? If the latter, they probably cancelled it themselves as four reminders are more than enough
its unacceptable and you are better off without him!

hopefully you can get a new appt quickly!

It is illegal to steal someones post. He has also endangered our life, a visit to your local cop shop may be in order. What a horrible person he is.
even if you cant get him done, still report it an ask the police to have a stern word to frighten him a bit
You could/should have organised mail redirection through Royal Mail when you moved.
As I understand it opening someone else's mail is not automatically a crime but deliberately interfering with mail is.
It is a bit of a non started quite honestly

interfering with the mail which is what he has done
is a criminal offence

however the royal mail will only say that their duty is to deliver the mail to the address on the envelope (not to the person)

I routinely open all the mail in my mox without looking at the addressee because I am the only person in the house besides my dog who is not usually written to.

I tend NOT to send on mail ever since I sent on a summons and got involved in a CCJ and bailiffs and god knows what

secondly the boss of a works opened the union officers mail and read it and then gave it to him
it involved a legal claim.....
and I couldnt get anyone interested at all (not even the Union)
The boss's comment was...... I am allowed to do this
