Minimum hours sleep

Atm, i fall asleep bout 12-01 and wake up bout 07-08 in the morning...but after messing bout for a while i started to get a headache, calmed down for a bit and it went away.
I was thinking theres probably a link between my lack of sleep and the headache. Whats tge minimum recommended hours of sleep per night?

For many years 8 hours per night was the recommendation but the latest research suggests 4 to 7 hours is better (but with some other research suggesting that 6 hours should be viewed as the minimum).
It's probably best just to let your body dictate your personal sleep requirements. When I was in my twenties I only needed 10 hours sleep per week, so I went to bed for 3 hours on a Tuesday night, 3 hours again on Thursday night and 4 hours on Sunday night. These days I need quite a bit more sleep (but I still skip the occasional night's sleep and feel better for it).

Everyone has a different sleep pattern, 7/8 hours is said to be the norm but a lot of people sleep 5/6 hours without any problems. If you feel really tired you could always have the odd early night. As you get older you seem to sleep less at night, but doze off during the daytime. But if you are getting headaches, are you reading or computing for a long time each night, getting eye strain, do you drink alcohol before bedtime, are your pillows comfortable etc. I'd see your GP about a blood pressure check or health problems.
It seems no matter how much sleep I have, I always want more lately. I feel like crap every morning to the point where I could almost cry. I wake up during the day, go to bed at a reasonable hour and then am exhausted again the next morning. I've never been a morning person but it's getting a bit ridiculous now.
CD its quality not quantity then... you may not be getting enough deep sleep do you live somewhere with a lot of external noise if so something as simple as earplugs might do the trick as you may be partially roused at intervals but not enough to fully wake you... also sharing a bed can much up your sleep if it is a relatively new thing
I love my sleep though can often feel far more alert on less sleep. At the moment I usually go to bed between 11pm and midnight and get up properly at 6.30am (though my first alarm goes off at half 5 and I doze then, I'm not one for waking up and jumping straight out of bed, especially as I don't linger to have breakfast or anything, it's up, shower etc... and out.
I once read that sleeping in 4 hour cycles can help, that if you wake up inbetween you are waking in the middle of a sleep cycle so makes you feel more groggy.
I think quality is important though - you seem to get decent sleep timewise but do you sleep well?
