Where the wires for the central locking, electric windows and speakers went from the body to the doors, the insulation had perished after time and constant twisting as the doors opened and closed, and the central locking wires shorted out. Check the state of the insulation, if this is the cause in your case you should be able to fix it with a bit of insulating tape.
Hi TWR, Yes I did check that the doors were all closed and they were. We took the battery lead off last night so that the battery would be drained and we though that had cure he problem as it wasn't doing it all morning after we put it back on. Then when we went to go out later the remote wouldn't work to open the doors but did to close them. At least that is better than having the thing opening on it's own when we aren't around. It does open manually with the key. As long as that remains the case I'll leave it till I take it in for it's service and MOT on Monday week. I will let the mechanics look at it. Hubby and I know next to nothing about cars.
And we do have the code for the radio. Thanks for your input. Jools
