We usually get our money changed in a booth inside a Cash Converters Store, the rate is usually better than any of the other currency places. Never had any problem with them.
I have for many years just taken enough euros to last me a day or two, as I have always found that I got a better exchange rate at the resorts. But the last few years that has changed, with exchange offices offering about the same as I could get in UK.
If you can get first hand advice on what you can get in GC just before you go,or change here.
If its any help exchange in Benidorm at moment is 1.175.
I always get a very good exchange rate when I use my credit card abroad - and no fees if you have the right card.

Thanks for that bob its exactly the sort of info I was after !
Of course I've been on tripadvisor and johnlewis but you can't beat first hand reports. Are you in Spain at the moment ? Could you please find a local price ( inc. commission etc. ) for 1000 euro ? Muchos gratsias if you can .

not sure if any help now but all Thomas Cook branches are apparently offering 1.20 to the pound today only.
Marty, Talk is the rate in UK and the Canaries could get better.People are getting
118 in Tenerife at the moment, But it might be worth checking out your local Thomas Cook if redcrx is right.
That rate in Benidorm is no commission.
We don't change money at all - we take a few euros with us for the taxi and immediate expenses, then draw the cash out of the hole in the wall. Saves worrying about carrying large amounts of cash, and you can just draw what you need.

Puerto Rico is nice, it's been years since I was there but I liked it.

Just putting this back up - off to town soon and still don't know if I should wait to change cash or not ! ( my bank charges for ATM withdrawals )
Am probably just being too greedy but would hate to get there and find everyone offering better rates !
